Jay Walter Wrathall, age 90, of Laie, Hawaii, passed away on May 10, 2024, in his home city. He was born on May 12, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jay was a shy, kind, and generous man, known for his loyalty to his family and his thoughtful nature.
Jay was a beloved professor of sciences at Brigham Young University-Hawaii for over 30 years. He held a Ph.D in Inorganic Chemistry from Ohio State University. Outside of his career, Jay enjoyed hobbies such as astronomy, chess, and photography.
Jay is survived by his wife of 55 years, Faith Wrathall of Laie, and his children Michelle Baker, Steven Wrathall, Melody Lowman (Brian), Kenji Wrathall (Heather), Jay Wrathall, Julie Abundo (Mike), and Theresa Wrathall (Rich). He is also survived by his brothers Don Wrathall, Claude Wrathall, sisters Gwen Bain, Carol Jullierat, his cherished grandchildren Rebecca, Catherine, Brandon, Keith, Thomas, Eryn, Dylan, Asher, June, and Skye, and one great-grandchild, Liliana.
Jay’s Celebration of Life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 55-415 Iosepa Street, Laie on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. The attire is Aloha/Casual.
Grace Mortuary Services in Kaneohe, Hawaii, is assisting with the funeral arrangements.
