Aleki Vavao Leiataua. Born April 13, 1958 in Pago Pago, American Samoa to loving parents Vavao Leiataua and May Sesepasara Leiataua. Aleki was named after his father’s youngest brother whom passed away at an early age. Aleki the oldest of 9 children (3 brothers & 5 sisters). He was raised by his maternal grandparents Reverend S.F. Sesepasara and Faatamalii Sesepasara of the Pago Pago First Assembly of God church. He and his brother Faafeao helped carried rocks to build the church that exsists today. Aleki moved to Nanakuli to live with his maternal aunt Vaiula Samuela Lutu and grew up with his Lutu cousins. Aleki attended and graduated from Nanakuli High School in 1978 along with his brother Faafeao. They both joined the Navy right after graduation and stationed in different locations. Aleki served honorably in the Navy for over 7 years. After his military career, Aleki settled in Seattle, WA and started his banking career in the International Banking Department of US Bank-formerly Peoples Bank. Aleki always took care of his parents and they were very proud of him. With one of his bonus he bought his dad a brand new red sports model Thunderbird. Dad was so proud of him and loved that car. After Aleki worked over 30+ years at US Bank Aleki he retired December 2024. Prior to mom’s worsening Dementia Aleki promised her that he would take her back to her parents home in American Samoa and take care of her there. Aleki did just that in May 2025. Unfortunately, Aleki fell ill in July and was cared for by the staff at LBJ. He was medievac to Queen’s Medical Center Honolulu September where he received excellent care. He was loved by many and kept watched with daily visits from his maternal aunt Easter Bone and cousin Kerina Elisara. His Sesepasara, Felise, Jennings-Joyner and Samuelu families along with siblings visited as well and kept him company. The Sisters at St. Joseph Residence in West Seattle were his faithful prayer warriors. While his heart was strong, his body was no longer able to nourish him. He was discharged with Bristol Hospice to Islands Skilled Nursing and Respiratory Rehab Center where he was lovingly cared for by an excellent staff. His wonderful care allowed his family to spend 24 hour virtual vigils until he took his last breath February 13, 2026 surrounded by his 8 siblings and their children. Aleki stepped into his permanent address-Heaven just a few hours after his aunt Filo Leiataua passed in Auckland, New Zealand. Aleki is survived by his mother May Leiataua whom is lovingly cared for at Hope House in American Samoa; his 3 brothers Faafeao, Tulisa and Don; his 5 sisters Suni, June, Soolei and Luaipouomalo; and many nephews and nieces whom he spoiled them all. Aleki was truly a Good Son. He lives in our hearts forever.
