McCoy Pope, former longtime resident of New London, CT, was a devoted member of the Kiwanis Club of New London, and also an active member with the New London Historical Society. Â
After moving to Honolulu in 2009, Mac continued his public service related work as a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). Once monthly he would set up a table at Prince Kuhio Jonah Kalanianaole Federal Building to educate and encourage federal employees’ membership. He served as Vice President of the Waikiki Chapter before his illness. Unfortunately, McCoy passed away on New Year, Jan. 01, 2023 morning in Kaneohe, Hawai’i, following a lengthy illness.
Born October 5,1937, he served more than 20 years in the U.S. Air Force–with distinction and many honors–before being selected by the U.S. Department of Defense to become a Special Agent in Charge (SAIC) for the Eastern Region. He was a philanthropist, having donated much to charities, and a prolific writer, having published the book & quote, The Favorites of the Sun & quote.
McCoy was predeceased by his parents Travis McCoy and Rose Pope and siblings, John and Geraldine. He leaves behind son David (wife Erika) and beloved grandson Tyler McCoy; younger son Jason; former spouse Geraldine; sisters MaryAnn and Sylvia; and his 101-year-old aunt Helen Pope of VA. He is also survived by many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews in New York, North Carolina, Virginia, England, and Liberia.
Mac & #39’s life was one of providing comfort, joy, and encouragement to all he encountered. His humor was his tool for ameliorating any difficulty. He was loved by everyone who knew him.
A funeral service with military honors is scheduled for Thursday, February 2, 2023, 9 am – 12 noon(HST) at the Hosoi Mortuary Chapel in Honolulu, Hawaii.
